Increased Budget Funds Hope for Cancer Victims

Across the United States, medical scientists, researchers, and institutions are scrambling to get some of the thirty-percent increase in funding allotted to the National Institute of Health by President Obama.

Many of the individuals and institutions submitting applications for funding to the NIH plan to research cancer, and some specifically hope to find a cure for asbestos related diseases like mesothelioma. In particular, the University of Chicago (who has submitted several hundred applications)wants funds to study lung tumors, breast cancer, and mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a dangerous cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos exposure can have several profoundly negative side effects. Among them are asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a particularly aggressive cancer.
